On to Richmond National Battlefield Park to immerse yourself with natural and cultural American history.
Richmond National Battlefield Park, in central Virginia, is over 3,600 acres divided among 12 separate sites. Richmond’s history is focus on the Civil War, and from 1861 – 1865 armies battled time and again. The city was full of factories that forged weapons and hospitals to care for the sick and wounded. In present day, you can visit the park to see past historical structures while admiring the environment. Located along the transition from Virginia’s piedmont region on the west and coastal plain on the east, these ecosystems have a wide diversity of native plants and animals. Grasslands, savannah-like pinelands, riparian wetlands, streamside communities, and forests can be found within the park.
