What to Look For

Invasive Species

What is an invasive species? An invasive species is any harmful non-native plant, animal, or other organism that can impact the environment, the economy, and human or animal health. Invasive species can be found in both aquatic and terrestrial areas. Any reproductive part of an invasive species can pose a risk, including the seeds, eggs, spores and other reproductive material of the species. Invasive species reduce biodiversity and degrade ecosystem health, impact water quality and soils, lower forest and agricultural productivity, threaten native fish and wildlife survival, impact wilderness character, increase the size and intensity of wildfire, and many other threats.
