Consisting of six National Wildlife Refuges, Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuge Complex works together to protect the wetlands of that area for the migratory waterfowl species. 

Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuge Complex encompasses six National Wildlife Refuges in the Klamath Basin that include Tule Lake (39,116 acres), Upper Klamath (23,098 acres), Lower Klamath (50,092 acres), Klamath Marsh (40,000 acres), Bear Valley (4,200 acres), and Clear Lake (46,46 acres). These six refuges work together for a combined mission to protect what remains of what once was the largest wetlands area west of the Mississippi River. Tule Lake is a significant staging area for migrating waterfowl during spring and fall migrations. Upper Klamath consists of mostly freshwater hardstem-cattail and open water, and is an excelled brooding area for waterfowl and colonial nesting birds. Lower Klamath has a mixed variety of shallow marshes, open water, grassy uplands, and croplands that are all intensively managed to become one of the most biologically productive refuges within the Pacific Flyaway. Klamath Marsh wetlands are primarily wet meadows with some open water wetlands, and the natural plant community is maintained to provide a fall and spring feeding habitat for waterfowl and sandhill cranes. Bear Valley is one of the most heavily used bald eagle wintering sites in the lower 48 states, because they are one of the few areas in the Klamath Basin that contains suitable roost trees in close proximity to food sources. Clear Lake is composed of the Clear Lake Reservoir and surrounding uplands; the reservoir functions primarily as water storage facility for the Klamath Reclamation Project.
